Light phase contrast microscopy of a 12-day-old primary culture of human proximal tubule cells shows a confluent epithelial monolayer with cobblestone appearance and demonstrates dome formations (out of focused areas in the pictures) indicating vectorial fluid transport from apical to basolateral surfaces.
